It’s a Date!

Thousands of brides and grooms across the country will be heading to the altar on 11/11/11.

Is this wedding date full of luck or a bad omen? The number one symbolizes a new beginning and some say that eleven adds double strength to that meaning. We are not sure if the date is lucky or not, but according to David’s Bridal, approximately 57,000 couples think the date is lucky and have chosen to get married on 11/11/11!…Wow, love will definitely be in the air!

Hotels and wedding venues have had this special date, which only comes around one time in a hundred years, booked up for months. This popular date has truly been one of the most sought after dates in 2011. It doesn’t hurt that the date falls on Veteran’s Day Weekend, so for some this was the perfect time for a three-day wedding weekend.

At Waldorf Astoria Orlando, the lucky 11/11/11 bride is one of our very own!

Naketrice and Danny at Waldorf Astoria Orlando

Naketrice Booker, an Event Manager at Waldorf Astoria Orlando and Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek, will be marrying Danny Snow, Director of Marketing at Snow & Associates, Inc.

Like most couples, Naketrice and Danny had been discussing marriage for a short time before the proposal. They even discussed what dates they liked and 11/11/11 was their favorite! On November 10, 2010, with the assistance of their kitten Oreo, Danny asked Naketrice to marry him and they set 11/11/11 as their date! Naketrice knew instantly that she had her perfect guy, the perfect date and she knew Waldorf Astoria Orlando was the perfect venue.

We are excited for Naketrice and Danny and we can’t wait to help them celebrate their big day – one that will truly only come around once in a lifetime!

Brie and Mike Sasche were married at Waldorf Astoria Orlando in a gorgeous outdoor fall ceremony on the Waldorf Astoria Signature Island. The couple’s  wedding was recently featured in the “Our Big Day” section of the fall/winter issue of  Orlando Wedding magazine.

An excerpt from the article:

Orlando Wedding MagazineBrie, 30, is well-known in Orlando’s power circles as Mayor Buddy Dyer’s former chief of staff. The mayor and his wife, attorney Karen Dyer, hosted a cocktail reception for wedding guests the night before the ceremony at the Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek.

“The main focus of our wedding was the ceremony,” says Brie. “We wanted our friends and family to hear about our ‘love story’ and how we met, why we fell in love. It was the best day of our lives.”

Tips for Orlando Destination Weddings

The Knot gives 17 Luxe Destination Wedding Touches.  Here are a few of our favorite high-impact ideas:

Hand-delivered Items
Instead of sending your invitations through the mail, have them personally delivered. Hire a messenger service to distribute invitations affixed to mini bottles of champagne. Don’t have the budget for bubbly? Send a rose or an orchid along with your invite instead. Or, deliver a signature bloom to female guests on the day of the wedding, and suggest they wear it attached to their hair, pinned to their dress, or tied to their bag.

Dramatic Tents
When it comes to tented weddings, guests never know what to expect inside. Take advantage of this opportunity for drama and bring the indoors outside. Mix formal furnishings such as silk fabric drapings, chandeliers, and couches with nature-inspired elements like potted plants and ivy overlays. A clear-top tent makes this contrast even more extravagant — elegant.

Wardrobe Change
Brides, make a grand entrance not once, but twice. Take a cue from some Asian and Indian brides who wear one gown for their traditional ceremony and another for their Western ceremony, and incorporate an outfit change into your own celebration. Wear one dress as you come down the aisle, and then switch into something more svelte and party friendly (and maybe not even white) after your first dance.

Video Booth
Have your videographer create a candid camera area (he may need an assistant for this) where guests can take it upon themselves to record a message to the newlyweds. Relieve their pressure to find the perfect words by setting up a fishbowl filled with conversation starters like “When did you first meet?” and “What’s the groom’s favorite food?”

Chic Table Settings
Typically, centerpieces are the focal point of a reception table. But the best ones — which aren’t necessarily the biggest ones — work with the whole table setting. Pump up your wow factor with tablecloths in interesting patterns like stripes, toile, or gingham; glass chargers in bold colors; or stylish seats like white chiavari chairs with brightly colored seat cushions or vivid chiavari chairs with matching seat cushions.

Interactive Cocktail Hour
The best weddings are those where guests seem to really get along. Encourage mingling by scribing on the backs of escort cards fun directions like “Ask Grandma Pat about her famous apple pie” and “Ask the best man about Miami.” It’s the perfect icebreaker for your cocktail hour.
