Part II:  Customized Lighting Creates Colors and Textures For One of A Kind Wedding Receptions

Wedding decorations aren’t what they used to be.  Color themes aren’t just carried out on table linens, napkins and centerpieces anymore.  Customized lighting is now the latest and most popular tool used by brides to make their weddings truly special, ranging from the traditional bride to cultural brides who integrate vibrant colors of fuschia, lime green and bright blues into their elaborate wedding receptions.

“Lighting at weddings has really evolved in the last three to five years to not only add color or create a theme, but to customize and create an entire experience,” said Ben Lawless, President of Kaleidoscope Event Lighting.  “We use LED now and different color bulbs of red, green, and blue and combinations of them to splash on the walls, the ceiling or the dance floor.”

Customizing the lighting means customizing the entire feel of the wedding reception.  And this is done in various ways such as pin spotting, changing colors and using unique textures.

According to Lawless, pin spotting is used to accentuate lighting in focus areas such as the tables, center pieces, etc., while lower lighting sets the mood in the room.  A change in colors progresses the evening through key events such as the couple’s first dance, the dinner, the father and daughter dance and the cutting of the cake. This is facilitated by an on-site tech all through the evening.  “And we also now use lighted textures such as leaves, scroll work and faux painting on the ceiling, walls and dance floor,” he explained.

“Lighting and color create a powerful emotion at weddings.  It makes the evening truly memorable.”
